Simple Strategy Using Vanguard Funds

  1. Only hold Vanguard funds

Vanguard's fees are among the lowest. Keeping your cost down is always a good idea if you want to seek the best gains.

  2. Hold a maximum of 1 fund and put 100% of your capital in that fund

Hold a primary fund (VPMCX) if it has a buy signal, otherwise hold the alternative (VWESX) fund. This strategy therefore switches between only 2 funds based on market conditions. A fund has a buy signal if its short-term and long-term trends are positive (i.e. have an upward trend). This implies that when I'm holding the primary fund (VPMCX) and either the short-term or long-term trend turns negative then I will replace it with the alternative fund (VWESX). I switch back to the primary fund (VPMCX) when both the short-term and long-term trend of the primary fund (VPMCX) are again positive.
